When I show my 64 Hemi clone S/S car it is amazing the number of
people that come up and tell me "there buddy had one just like it"
and he used to drive it around on the street, I just don't think
that ever happened, I do believe that you could go buy one if you
had a dealer friend, I am aware of a 65 race car that was shipped
to Dallas to a group of guys that were local racers, they picked
the car up at the rail dock and drove it to the shop, last time it
saw the street. I think you probably could get a 64 if you had a
similar relationship with a dealer, but these cars were never
intended to be street driven. John Althaus

The last max wedge, stage 3 426, was produced mid-year for
 the 1964 Dodges
and Plymouths. It was replaced by the 426 Hemi race motor
that year. It was
available, just like the maxis.

I have always wondered, what year was th first one that you
could check a
box on a new car order form at the dealer and get the new
426 Hemi in a
Dodge? Was it 1965 or 1966?
