[Chrysler300] Replacement for instrument glass glue 55-59

I know this subject has been commented previously, but cannot located those
old e-mails. What is the recommended replacement for the grey goo that
usually comes seeping out on the instrument glass after 30-40 years on the
55 through 59(?) Mopars? Guess the goo purpose was to make the instrument
binnacles watertight, so would some silicon adhesive be good? Doing a
winter-job on my C-300 which has the speedo partially obscured by the
mentioned substance.
