OK folks, here is an economical place to order the NGK BPR 5 ES:
http://www.race-mart.com/items/products/ngk/NGKBPR5ESSOLID-detail.htm
Their phone number is 888-286-9797 and I talked to Paul there. Be sure
to specify the "solid top", not the threaded top. They sell them at
only $1.65 apiece, but you have to buy them in a 10 pack and there is a
$25.00 minimum order. So you end up with 20 plugs for $33.00 + shipping
- not bad.
And I'll pass along the following commentary about the NGK BPR 5 ES from
someone who gets seriously into this sort of thing -------
Hi Keith,
The BR5ES (BPR5ES for resistor plugs) are one heat range colder than
NGK's catalog recommendations, but I have no trouble with any fouling or
misfiring in either my early Hemi or LA-engined vehicles. The slightly
colder heat range can help eliminate detonation problems in hot weather
with today's fuels. The rule of thumb I learned on heat range has
always been to err on the side of a colder plug if drivability and plug
fouling are not a problem. I've used this general rule for race engines
in hydroplanes and race cars as well as vintage cars, with good
success. Now the caveat: Lisa and I put a lot of miles on our various
vintage cars (occasionally at extended high speed!); they never see
service just loading and loading from a trailer. These cars virtually
always go through a full heat cycle every time they are started.
So...if a customer's car is used primarily in display and low speed
cruising, a hotter plug might be necessary to get a good, clean burn.
Also, a car that has a tired engine and suffers from excessive oil
consumption will require a hotter plug.
