Since one doesn't know what the precise orientation of the internal
paint-tube might be
wouldn't it be best to store aerosol cans upside-down???
That tube is the reason why a can is help upside-down, when the can is
sprayed, to clear-out
its plumbing, for storage purposes.

I store my aerosol cans on their sides so the paint solids do not
settle to the bottom and clog the tube. I have some that I am sure
are at least five years old, and when I want to use a little, they
work for me. Be sure to blow out the spray nozzle however.
