Shocks don't support any load, they just dampen out suspension movement
unless you get air shocks or spring over shocks. Your car should have
the same stance with or without shocks. Look for broken springs or
torsion bars or possibly a torsion bar in need of adjustment.

The struts usually go out on 56 Dodges before they lose their
torsion bars.
Of course, it could be the muffler bearings need shimming. ;-D
As a serious aside, a broken spring or mount would be my first
suspicion.

ummmmmm, dis poor brain seems to think torsion bars were new to mopar
in 1957, would not that 56 still have springs on the front?????
