All Mopar cars (and trucks) from 1940 through to and including 1970 had left
hand threads on the left (driver's) side of the car. The front will be the
same.
Being a left-hand thread, they tighten by turning them in a
counter-clockwise (left) rotation. And to loosen them turn them clockwise
(right). Or, basically, the opposite of normal.
If you ever take your car to a shop for work on the brakes, tires, etc.
stand over the mechanic as he takes the wheels off. Using a power wrench to
remove the nuts in the wrong direction will cause the lugs to break. Make
sure they understand the left side of the car has left hand nuts and lugs.

I am trying to take the rear driver's side tire off of my 66 Lebaron and
the heads of the lugs are marked "L". Does this mean that the lugs are
loosened to the left? I assumed so, but lots of pressure doesnt seem to take
them off.
