First, use a solution of water and a good but mild
soap (Ivory dishwashing liquid would be perfect) to
clean the top, along with a good stiff nylon brush to
work into the grain.
Then trot on down to your local Lowe's/Home
Depot/Hardware store and purchase a bottle of
Armstrong Vinyl Floor Sealant. I tried this stuff on
a whim last year for my '70 Imperial, and was very
pleased with the results. It gives a nice clean glow
to the top, but doesn't look sticky or tacky. It also
doesn't run when it gets wet, like some other vinyl
treatments which leave streaks down the side of the
car when it rains.
I did discover that it will leave little white spots
when it gets wet, but these disappear as soon as it
dries. I expect a dose or two of this stuff will do
wonders for your vinyl top.
Elijah
