'57 POWER WINDOW SWITCH SMOKIN'

Howdy list,
     The master (4 switch) on my '57 four-door smokes
intermittantly.  Found this out driving around with no
door panel on. (No, nothing on the block touches metal
that I can see).  Wires leading to it show no heat
damage, but pieces of the white plastic block in the
switch have chipped off.  I'm assuming I must replace
the block (drivers window is also intermittant), but
am I correct that where ever electrical smoke is
coming from is also the location of the short?
