In fact, I found it quite easy to take the top of the manifold off. I couldn't
move it very far as I didn't undo all the little vacuum lines etc. Well, I
broke one of them so technically I guess I did remove that one hehehe. Yea, I
didn't have a gasket so I replaced the manifold without one and crossed my
fingers. The car runs well even at that. I'll probably pick up a gasket next
trip to the dealer so I can replace it next chance I have. Maybe I'll get more
than one just in case.
Last weekend, I picked up a transmission filter from the dealer. I wasn't
feeling well so I never thought to get more than one. It was about $12 with
tax. I asked for the special tranny fluid that I am told should go in that
tranny but the parts drone assured me that I could use regular Dexron III.
That is not true according to the folks on the EEK list so I will hold out
until I can get the fluid they recomend (7176?)
I still have that gas filter to change and those top shock bolts to fix. I'm
not exactly sure how I am going to fix that at this point though. The bolts
are slightly too small in diameter and the shocks clunk as I drive. Someone
suggested I have the wrong bolts. I would tend to agree because I am not the
original owner so I have no idea what has gone on before this.
Even after this tune-up, I am not impressed with the fuel economy on this car.
The car is only getting about 18 mpg in the city! That's not even double what
my 1978 Newport gets! I am very disappointed! Even though, it is a nice
little car to drive, and you can't beat the leg room!!! I've compared it to
the New Yorkers that I've seen out there and the Imperial definitly is longer
and most of that length is in the back seat. It's almost like they were trying
to revive those little K-Car Executive Limos that were made in the early 80s.

impressive job ya did there taking the upper manifold off. Thats a pretty hard
job. But not so much hard as it is frustrating. Just hope that next time you
go into high RPM's you dont spring a air leak, since it looks like you didn't
replace the gasket when you put the intake back on. hope it all goes well with
the tune up.
