I find the "wearing seatbelts is dangerous"argument very tiresome but each
to his own.My next door neighbor has this attitude. I have been involved in
an accident where I was very nearly killed as I was ejected from the rear
seat of a 1977 Camaro through the windshield and took a bit of the rear view
mirror with me via my scalp. That was not funny. The driver sustained minor
injuries because he stayed in the car(not belted in) and the other front
seat passenger died(ejected and hit a tree). The stats are there for all to
see. I also knew people who were ejected and then run over by their own car
which did them in. And I have been in an accident(roll over) of an 18
wheeler which came very close to crushing me as I stayed in the cab and when
all was finished the roof of the cab was at seat cushion level. I was still
glad I was inside. My uncle was driving an 18 wheeler and met another one
with a sleeping driver at the crest of a hill going the other direction in
the wrong lane.My uncle was wearing a seat beltand survived to drive another
day. Not so for the other people. On the other hand I ride motorcycles and
always have. And I want to distance myself from the bike if I go down(and I
have, hard, more than once). If the protection is there( as in the body of a
car) then use it. We are fragile and need all the protection we can get.
