I apologize if you felt singled out by a portion of my post. Clearly,
if the intent is to drive this car beyond its original purposes many
design changes must be made. Confusion over the intentions for this
particular vehicle, and differences between driving on the Autobahn vs.
American Highways could lead to incorrect assumptions. There are no
comparable public roadways in the United States, and no circumstances
where I personally would drive an Imperial 200+ mph.
Comments that I post to the IML are intended to clarify procedures for
repair and maintenance of stock systems for the sake of safety and
originality. Customized vehicles and race cars are outside of my
interest. The IML is open to all Imperial owners, so there are others
that share these interests.
I make statements that challenge those who believe that our cars are
unsafe on modern roadways unless they are some how modified from their
original form. Of course, the owner of any Imperial can do what ever
makes them happy to their own car. I believe that most folks here plan
to use their cars for pleasure, car shows, light duty transportation,
and possibly some for regular use on American roads. I would like to
see this type of use continue to be allowable in our country. There are
legislators who plan to eliminate antique cars from the American
roadways for economic and ecological reasons. These politicians may
attempt to use arguments about the safety of these vehicles to further
their own agendas. My intention is to continue to advocate this hobby
and be in favor of the preservation of antique cars.
Imperials were built well enough to drive with confidence, while
maintaining their original configurations, provided that the car is
being used as it was originally intended, that proper repair and
maintenance are carried out, and that the driver adjusts their personal
habits to fit the equipment.

Not only the brakes should be updated when going real fast.
Also the complete suspension and the rest of the drive train needs a
lot of work.
I live close to the german autobahn and will surely floor it when the
new engine is ready to go.
What's the use of building a 800 HP +++ supercharged 392 and not use
the power?
I hope to be able to hit the 200 MPH mark, not on a weekday's rush hour
but on a early sunday morning with a almost
empty autobahn for myself.

. There was a
post about needing better brakes to get the most out of the engine,
which makes me wonder if some folks think that by converting their
brakes they can drive faster or follow more closely. Those are bad
driving habits which have nothing to do with realizing the potential of
the engine. Public roads are a community of people who have to work
together to get along. If someone wants to find out how fast their car
will go, they need to make arrangements with a race track, not
experiment with fast driving and a different braking system on a public
road. The excessive burst of power available to Imperial Owner's is
there for safe passing on two lane highways and smoothly merging with
high speed freeway traffic.
