Yes,
I've always used 1/2 inch as the safety cutoff.

Thx Bob,
You understand the 3/4" is the distance the harmonic balancer turns,
right?

Sorry, premature sendage...
If you see 3/4 of an inch, your chain has enough slack to jump a tooth.

Subject: IML: timing chain play
Greetings all,
I am trying to determine if there is excess slack in my timing chain on
my
67 440. I have turned the harmonic balancer back and forth while watching
the rotor and get about 3/4" of free movement at the balancer. Is this
considered too much?
Thx,
Chris Strohmeyer
