The spot welded ones that I encountered were on three separate Sedans.

Or perhaps they were welded on the hardtop and not on the sedans, has
anyone correlated that?
There is bound to be a bit more flex in the roof of a hardtop without
the B pillar but it seems hard to beleive there's enough slip to
require welding the SS panels.

I have a Crown sedan with dealer installed (I have the invoice)
stainless. Not welded.
I had a LeBaron sedan, Not welded
I had a LeBaron Southampton hardtop, welded.
Go figure. Maybe they started out welding them and then decided why
are we bothering? Likely it was a cost cutting measure mid year.
