Are you sure? Usually when these valves go bad, they
either start to leak, or don't turn off completely.
I would check several things first: Is the control
cable attached - both to the dash lever and to the
valve? Is there a blockage in the heater core (hook
hoses up directly, by-passing valve to check).
If the valve is being operated by the control lever
and the heater core produces heat when by-passed, then
indeed you may need a new valve. Alas, no new ones
are available. It is possible to get usable used
ones. The same basic valve was used on all Mopars
from 1959-61, all Chryslers and Dodge 880's from
1962-64, and all Imperials to 1959-66. Also, there
are several services that rebuild them.
