I guess that can be done, but the way that it works is that the cable goes from the transmission to the Auto Pilot Unit, and then there is a cable from the Auto Pilot Unit to the speedometer. I may be possible that something that was disconnected while undoing the Auto Pilot needs to be reconnected to make the speedometer work. The throttle linkage and electrical connections don't really have anything to do with this aspect of the system.

But since I am not using the Auto pilot function, I will only need a new
speedometer cable.
The car has been fitted with a brand new Edelbrock carb and the linkage to
the Auto Pilot no longer exist you see.. All done by the previous owner
ofcourse :)
Maybe I will try to reconnect the Auto Pilot later on, just to bring the
car back to its original condition.
But right now I would be happy with only a new speedo cable!
