It sounds like you tried everything possible. I had such a problem trying to 
remove the brake assembly from the front wheel on one of my 60's. The air 
wrench eventually snapped it off & I was lucky to have spare parts from a 
car I parted out. I would suggest someone such as Bob H. to get a used part. 
They are the same for many years, so you should have no problem getting one. 
New might be another story.
