Joe, it should be possible to heat the lens(warm-hot water), this would make the lense more plastic, and resist cracking. Dave.

To the Group;
Have any of you installed new replacements for '62 tail light lenses? If so, what size Phillips screws did you use? I am reluctant to use very large screws of the sheet metal type unless they have a self tapping feature so that I can slowly cut threads into the plastic, backing them out repeatedly and blowing out any shavings until the screw will seat properly. The replacement lenses were quite expensive and I don't want to run the risk of cracking them while installing them. The person who I bought them from years ago has passed away, so he is no longer around to ask any questions of.
Joe
