it could of course be named after Southampton in England (the original one which the one in Long Island was named after!)
While we're talking about "Southampton" with one "H",
I always assumed the Imperial was named after the rich
and famous locale on Long Island. But there are a
number of other Southamptons. Does anyone know whether
it is the New York town, or some other one? Or was it
just because the name sounded good?
