Thank you for the great information on EZ Wiring. Another company has
been highly recommended, REBEL Wiring, that uses the same quality type of wire
and is a small company that takes pride in customer service.
Question; when the “Jeep guy” had EZ “build him a kit” for his M35 Military
Ambulance was it a custom kit specifically for his M35 or do you know if this
was there shelf stock universal kit that best fit his application?
I
was just showing some Jeep stuff to a guy I have for sale here at the shop
yesterday and am in the middle of doing a 69 CJ5 rewire and he tells me about
this company he found not far from here that he used for a kit to rewire a old
M35 Military Ambulance.....he said they had no trouble building him a complete
kit and it went smooth as butter.
I checked out their website and it's not much of one but according to him
they can do just about anything you need and the prices are the kind I
like....lol.
As for Painless....I have never installed one in anything myself but have
had to walk a lot of my customers thru some of their wiring stuff as they are
trying to install some type of component that I have restored for their
project.
I'm gonna give them a try when I get back on the CJ5 and also have to do a
64 Jeep DJ3a.

I think the main advantage of the aftermarket
kits is the fuse block system and the wire itself. It is almost impossible to
put together a decent wire package on your own that wouldn't cost a fortune.
The aftermarket kits have all the correct sizes and colors and a big plus is
that they are marked about every foot so when it comes to troubleshooting you
know exactly what and where everything goes.
I used a Ron Francis kit and the fuse block was outstanding.
It included a position for myriads of components and relays also. I added
wires to the trunk for a 3rd stop light, trunk light and just another for good
luck. Of course I had the electric fuel pump circuit there too. You will find
that the instructions are quite generic and do not address all the variations
you will encounter. The gauge cluster, ignition switch and light switch areas
will be something you will have to verify and trace out with a factory wiring
diagram. If you have any ability to read these diagrams you will overcome. Do
not rush your work. I spent about 3 months messing with mine. That allows you
time to throw everything down and rant and rave for awhile! With the Ron
Francis kit you replace the voltage regulator with a Ford unit, and the light
switch winds up GM , etc, etc.. The bottom line is that it works well and is a
nice clean functional system. Original? No. (I don't care)
The gauge cluster is a printed circuit and the plug-in that
has already been mentioned in another post is not included. You can find what
you need to address that issue at Radio Shack. They do have the pins that
work. I can probably dig up the part number eventually if someone needs it.
They are very inexpensive too. I must stress the point that it's important to
just take your time and do it right. The final product will be worth
it.

I
would appreciate any
