Thanks Don that is what I thought but wanted a second opinion. I'll look
elsewhere for my problem.

I'm not sure you did anything wrong. Remember that the gear on the
crank rotates twice for every one rotation of the gear on the cam.
Either way, the mark at the bottom or the top of the cam gear, is
right when the mark on the crank gear is at the top. The piston is
still at Top Dead Center (TDC). (Of course, it's hard to tell if
you got it right when they are 180 degrees apart)

Subject: Tming Chain Stupid Question
All, just finished putting Eddy Victor Heads ported to Max wedge
size, Indy
dual plane intake, Crane Hydraulic Roller in the winter top end
overhaul of
the 440 in my 63 330. It barely runs, pops out the exhaust on decel,
won't
idle. I have moved the timing all over the place from 0 degrees at
idle to
33
degress at 3k with no difference in running characteristics. I am
sure
that
all the plugs are firing and the valves are adjusted properly so am
at
my
wits end on this one. Now, the only thing I can figure that I messed
up
on
the build was that I set the timing marks in line top of each gear
at TDC
firing instead of the bottom of cam gear to top of crank gear. So my
question
is: will setting the timing marks the way I did manifest itself as
I have
noted above. I really don't want to rip it all back apart but will if
i have
to. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
