They may be wrong but I always have an opinion!. I used a one wire (GM)
because it was chrome , inexpensive, and mostly because I wanted to
eliminate as much wireing and regulator as I could. I do believe they are
not as dependable as the stock Mopar. I don't see the need for a 100 amp
alternator unless maybe you have a trunkfull of stereo
amps---yuk!......................MO..........sw iowa

Well, one wire is really GM terminology for their alternators with a built
in voltage regulator (VR), the terminology kind of got commingled with MoPar
because of the number of field wires on our alternators. Your 63 had one
battery wire and one field wire with a mechanical external voltage regulator
new. Newer MoPars had one battery wire and two field wires and an external
electronic voltage regulator. MoPar uses external VRs so we really don't
have a one wire alternator. Additionally I have seen people convert over to
GM alternators on their MoPars with NO gain just the aggravation of getting
it to align building brackets. Also over all dependability is with us I
have run into far less charging problems with MoPar systems than GMs.
On your 63 if it has a factory wiring harness I would only upgrade to 60 amp
much more and you will be stress testing your system every time you run it.
What type of Alt/VR do you have on your car now?

Use a condenser from an old window AC unit for a tranny
cooler. They are
all around if you look, and work great. The price is
certainty right. Don
t go to big on your alternator, remember the wiring in your 64
is built for
35 amp 60 amp would be the limit I would push it. Supt to you!

Nice post. I'm old enough, 65, to enjoy the "ramblings".
About the radiator/trans, I take it you installed an aluminum radiator
without a trans cooler hook-up? Dodger did this too. That's what
I am
contemplating. We are both wondering how well it will work.
There are
those radiators readily available for about $165 new. Whereas
the Be
Cool is about $900. I already have a Flow Kool pump but maybe I
need to
drill the relief holes too in the stat.
Alternator wise I am going your route but I'm planning to switch
from my
stock 35 amp to about a 60amp. They are easy to find for about
$55-$75.
I don't mind going to a 100amp but so far I haven't seen any
listed that
I thought would fit. Anybody know what year and make 100amp that would
bolt up to my poly?
