Trans question?

I have a question for some of you who have more experience with this old  
iron. Could I use my 63 three speed manual trans with a LA small block V-8? I  
know I would have to get a different bellhousing, but are they available? Also,  
if so, is there any difference between the crank on a motor that originally 
had  an automatic behind it, and one that had a manual? I ask because I had 
that  happen on a Datsun truck years ago, where the crank had no space for the 
shaft  on the manual trans. I want to put a V-8 in my 64 330, but I want to 
stick with  the manual trans, and I'm on a seriously tight budget. Any help is 
greatly  appreciated.
