A momentary switch is a switch, usually a push button, that only makes a
connection when pushed. As soon as it is released it breaks contact. If
it wasn't this type of switch your solenoid would be engaged until you
shut it off and it'd buzz and get hot and the trunk wouldn't shut unless
you remembered to shut it off.
