post 65 rear ends

I have a line on a guy who has several 65 & newer rear ends.  I haven't 
talked to him yet so I don't know exactly what he has.  But here's my 
question, I have a 742 Sure Grip 3rd member that I want to be able to 
use.  Do all of the axles have the same splines so that I would be able 
to use it with a newer rear?  Anything else I need to know when I go 
"shopping"?
