Hi!
Using a T5 is not the way to go if you want to
slam gear shifts.
A T56 not only has better (and more) gear ratios,
it can be built to take twice as much torque as a
T5 (300 ft/lbs NORMAL driving vs up to 600 ft/lbs)!
But speed costs money - How fast do you want to go?
The T5 is not just weak, the parts aren't cheap,
and unless you've already done at least a few manual
transmission rebuilds, is challenging.
Going this way also requires a final drive gear ratio
change to take full advantage of the swap.
The Borg Warner/TREMEC T56 6 speed is a better choice,
if money is no problem.
Still, even it will require a custom bell housing,
the usual clutch, shifter, trans mount, drive shaft,
etc., adaptations.
Why not just stay with a good strong 4speed box?

Has anybody every put a 5-spd in their car other than
the
Keisler? I was wondering if the Dakota trans was any
good.
I was thinking about converting my 64 Polara, and
maybe
even my 99 Dakota R/T. Can this trans be slammed
during
shifts, or is it like the old truck trannys that
would only shift slow? Can they handle any power?
Anybody know of any other 5-spds that might work?
Sorry for all the ????'s
