Whats wrong with using a socket and breaker bar to try and turn the engine after soaking it. I use paint thinner and ATF mixed about 50 50 works great.

Most any rust penatrant will work, every one has their own preference as to
which one is best, but basically they are all the same. If the engine is still
in the car, and it happens to be a stick, you have all the tools you need to
loosen it up, just fill the cylinders with WD or whatever brand you are going
to use, let sit a couple of days, and after that every time you go by the car,
violently rock the car back and forth while in gear, if it is not rusted to
bad in the cylinders, it will eventually break loose. If it is an auto trans.
you will probably have to buy a crankshaft socket, remove the harmonic
balancer, and with a long breaker bar try turning the crank both directions. Either
way, after it is broke loose, you will have a 99% chance that you will need
to rebuild the engine, as the problem was more than likely the rings are rusted
to the cylinder walls, and after breaking loose will never reseat to them, as
well as the chance of scratching the walls.

I would soak them for days and then pray like heck before trying. I tried to get the studs out of my 64 rearend and ended up bending the hubs. I tried pressing and that bent them. Also tried a sledgehammer and that did too. They wouldn't even budge. I ended up going with a newer rearend and was too scared to try to remove those studs

Subject: Manifold Carters
The Performer RPM is the manifold of choice for Dual purpose applications.
It is a very well designed manifold and boosts torque considerably but is delightfully unhindered at higher RPM.
It is Tall so air claener clearance is a possible problem.but so far we have not had one that wouldn't fit.
We like them especialy on 383s which are a bit low on bottom end grunt but are an excellant engine.
They give a very noticable improvement in the "seat of the pants" performance.
As for Carter parts. The "Strip Kits" for Carters are listed in the back of the Federal Mogul catalogue and were available as recently as last fall. I am not aware of any changes since. They contain a good assortment ofJets , big needles and seats and metering rods . They must be ordered specically for the carb size you have. (ie 625, 750, etc etc)
They are a must for the Carter Carbs.
Edelbrock has Calibration kits which are essentially the same but not exact.

bad, drill pilot hole then come back with drill .062 smaller than stud im sure

I've got a mildly built-up 318 Poly...it's .040 over, the cam is only slightly lumpier than stock (don't have the #s in front of me), it's got the 4-barrel OEM cast intake, and will (eventually) have the TTI headers on it.
I'm looking for a new carb...I'm thinking 600-650cfm...can anyone recommend any specific carb for the Poly? I'm NOT concerned with "staying original" - I want something that performs well and doesn't empty my pocketbook.
I've always been a fan of Holley, but I do like the Barry Grant Road Demon Jr, too.

Mike, to me a car without a motor is like a body with out a heart. The combinations are what make the value in the purchases. I'm not saying I wouldn't buy the body without the engine, but not anywhere near what he is asking. All of this talk of rear axle changes has loosened me up, combined with my
near to empty the barn so I can jack it up. So, I am prepared to part with the
following. "B" body, 8.75. Removed from a 1969 GTX, 4.11 Sure Grip, complete
from 11" drum to 11" drum.
We all know that these are hen's teeth, so the price is $500.00.
If that won;t do you, I also have an "A" body set up, 8.75, 3.23 S/G, drum to
drum. Talk about hen's teeth, that one is more money.

Is it the Dana 60 rear that u dont have to do that on? Can u just
pop out the unit on those???

Wouldn't you think a 750 a little to rich for a 318 (well, maybe a 330 now)?
With a mild cam I would tend to think (used loosely) a 500-600 CFM unit be
more in the breathing range for Andy's poly. I always thought you tried to
keep them max'd at 5-6K consumption. My P600 is 600 total I think and
that's 6 barrels.
Look at the street avenger series.

The 8.75 axles mate to the center chunk regardless of year.
1964 was last year for the tapered 8.75 rears.

A friend of mine recently traded one of Dick Landys 68 SS Darts for a
completely restored 68 Hemi Dart. My buddies car was a rolling shell in
primer. I'm not suggesting that Kohlmans car is the same thing as a Landy
car but nostalgic and historical significance have real monetary value.
Especially in the crazy market we are currently seeing. Check out the old
Mickey Thompson Thunderbolt on eBay. 200,000+ for a 64 Ford. mike

Dana 60 has the cover in the back and if I'm not mistaken, shop manual
called for a "case spreader" in order to remove all the insides. Axles also
had to be pulled prior to removal onf the innards.

Hey guys,
When you try this, always put a long socket or a piece of pipe behind the
flnge or hub and press or knock the stud into it. Keeps from bending hubs,
etc.

I would soak them for days and then pray like heck before trying. I tried
to get the studs out of my 64 rearend and ended up bending the hubs. I
tried pressing and that bent them. Also tried a sledgehammer and that did
too. They wouldn't even budge. I ended up going with a newer rearend and
was too scared to try to remove those studs

u might be right Tom, im not that knowledgeable. i did however have it on a
318 (my first rebuild) with a rv cam and 9.5 or so to 1 compression with a
single plane manifold in a pickup truck. ran real strong but i could tell it
needed more airflow.=2
