Not sure what your setup looks like, but my 64 was pretty grungy. I just wiped it down until clean with garage wipes, Tub O Towels and ZEP. Be sure to rinse off with water, and I just polished it up with an old T shirt.
 
 For more shine, I guess a UV resistant wax would seal it up.
 
To shine the old plated metal up, I use SIMICHROME polish and then sealed the metal with an aircraft anti corrosive spray ACF-50.
 
This really cleans up door latches like new as well. Any plated metal part then looks like new! See the fuel line?
