Re: {Chrysler 300} Re: 1970 300 Hurst

Cleaning up old emails and found this. I intended to reply at the time, and...
The original concept of the Hurst was that it was to have a Hurst floor shift installed at terh conversion Plant in Warminster, PA, along with a deep oil pan and some other things. Chrysler dithered and the approval came late in the build year, so only 500 were built and some intended items left off in the conversion.
My Hurst was one of approx 50 Console cars. As such it was built with column shifter AND had the Imperial Console installed with Imperial floor shifter. After the build they tied the shift levers to the column. and sawed off the nub of the column shifter. This was often looked at at the many Meets we drove this Hurst to. The seats and door panels were also Imperial parts they had to bring from another plant for this project.

Hmmm.

Hemmings' ad lists vin as CM27U0C000000. Attached first photo when we saw this Hurst displayed at MCACN 2016 shows the vin plate below the windshield reading CM27U0C231583. And attached second photo shows the Hurst shifter along with "2 pedals", so it's clearly an automatic.

I called and spoke to the owner today, Trev, very nice man, spent about 40 minutes sharing many details of the car, unique history, and line of ownership going back to George Hurst, etc.  I almost missed the shift lever on the transmission tunnel…thought it was a 4-spd but according to the owner, a “manual automatic” that uses an adaptation of the column mounted linkage that originally came with the car.  Over the course of time, the car has been repainted several times including early 70s when in use by Hurst.

Cool car!
