Carl,I can appreciate your desire to simplify things. I have more than I can keep up with in terms of cars and not needing to change antifreeze every couple of years would be nice. The gentleman in Burbank with the big car collection also has a full time mechanic on staff… not a bad investment at all. I don’t have a full time guy but I do have one who keeps one or two of mine at any given time for projects I don’t feel like doing or know I’ll never get around to wanting to do. It makes great filler work for him.I was watching a video of Jay the other day and he noted his cars needed constant attention. Minor things always need adjusting, greasing, tinkering with, etc… it made me laugh as my wife doesn’t seem to grasp that even with his well kept collection in dry southern California this is the case. She fusses as every drive can be an adventure. You’ve got me curious on this coolant. I’ve been buying cheap green Rural King coolant for about $8 a jug for the last few years. Prestone is $12-15 a jug here. I’m not convinced it’s any better. I avoid orange dexcool but we do run pink coolant on our Toyota products and run the semi longline coolant in our Cummins trucks.I am sold on better oil though. I do like the Mobil 1 for our daily use cars that get a lot of miles… those 10k mile oil changes saves a lot of trouble if you put a good filter on.Scott--

You can address me directly, I won’t bite. You ask why “anyone” would want to use waterless coolant, and you don’t “quite get” why anyone would, I’ll give you some reasons. Our cars are getting older, not unlike our members. We have over 400 members on this list and one of the prime benefits of being here is to share information and opinions that may be controversial. I get it, “waterless” coolant is controversial, not unlike DOT 5 brake fluid, but I’m not asking about brake fluid or oil for that matter.
Unlike Letter cars, science doesn’t stand still. I’ve got a freshly rebuilt dry engine here, not from my G, but from an early Barracuda, that I’m considering using Evans in. If successful, will put it in the G. I admit that I have been influenced by a well know club member with a large car collection in Burbank that has endorsed the Evans product. I’ve also been doing quite a bit of internet research, and there are people that have had good experiences with Evans. You may enjoy replacing coolant on a regular basis, I do not. It’s a messy PITA job that I could happily do without.
I appreciate the suggestion by both you and Dyke Ridgley to consider the No-Rosion product. Buying coolant these days is confusing, and many new antifreeze products are out there. I am not an antifreeze expert, so have come here, hat in hand, looking for information as to what members are doing to maintain the cooling systems in our vintage cars. I will probably use No-Rosion, but it still is a 5 year product, not permanent, so that is the downside. By the way, can you recommend a brand name for the “green coolant”?

Thanks, Dyke, for suggesting review of the No-Rosion web page. Very interesting products and material to read. I have not used Evans and never will. I understand that Bob J wants feedback from those who have used it, but I don't quite get why anyone would (except in rare circumstances as described in the review, which is here: No-Rosion Products Technical Questions and Answers )
Our cars used good ol' green silicate ethylene glycol. I have tried long life and have gone back to green. The no-rosion site explains why use of green in cars that used it for decades is important - again, very interesting reading:
Coolant flushes are among the easier tasks on our cars (can use Prestone kit via the heater hoses). So what if it has to be done every two years? Better for the cars anyway, and straight green coolant is under $10/gal and available at the nearest farm store (where I live anyway). Just capture the old antifreeze and take it to the nearest recycle center for free. I do understand, that if you can't work on your own cars due to limitations, that it would be a pain to take it somewhere every two years. And yes, highly toxic material that you must keep away from animals and little children. But green coolant works fine, as it always has.

Bob:
I would recommend you go to the No-Rosion website and read about waterless coolant in their question and answers section. If you cannot find the information, let me know and I will post the article from their Newsletter. The owner of the company writes the articles and is a graduate chemical engineer. He and his products are the real deal. There are a lot of serious negatives related to Waterless coolants and you should be very informed before you go down that road.

All,
I’m giving serious thought to changing over to Evans coolant in my G. I’ve read a lot about it and really like that it is a permanent solution to avoid coolant changes, eliminate cooling system corrosion, and reducing system pressure due to its high boiling point of 375 degrees F. I am aware that the conversion requires removal of all the old coolant and that the system has to be purged with a product made for doing that. I’m also aware that Evans is about $50/gallon so the conversion would come close to $300 altogether. Does anyone here have any experience with Evans coolant? I’d like to hear from those that have actually used it, and if you were happy with it or not. If not, what problems did you have?
