Re: {Chrysler 300} 300C can-type oil filter

the can may be dented downward( deformed ) by over tightening the nut . Very fussy about torque — this was common .Have to follow fsm  value

you can attempt to deform back the other way ( anvil and shaped receptir like a large socket ) or? have probably better have  a machine shop make a delrin washer to take up excess free play under stock washer . Maybe .1” .
trying to reshape by habd runs the risk of tilting the flat seal face etc . Your call .
I’d put the hot heads adapter ( angled
up one) get much a better 2025 screw on filter , newer   tech no leaks easy to change
Mopar filter from dealer is very good as is Bosch . Some of others are junk

I have the original can-type oil filter on my 300C (see attached). I changed the oil and installed a new filter recently. The can leaked. I pulled the can twice and re-installed with a new gasket each time but it continues to leak. I can’t get it to leak, engine running, in the shop. It only leaks when I take the car out on the road. Is there a trick to installing the oil filter can without leaking? The can never leaked previously, the whole time I have owned the car (46 years).
