I often wondered what engine family that 58-60 430 engine came from ? It’s own ? First of 460 type? Or a larger FE 390 / 406 ? Also Lincoln 368 Y block and predecessor which won Mexican road race .. defeated the 331 hemi, right? You never hear about those Lincolns , but they seemed to do ok . Ford’s 300? Especially 53-55 . “ export parts”—And very rare 57 Lincoln is a beautiful car.

On the other hand Fords were dogs no matter the hp claimed . I had a 57 Ford custom , police interceptor 312 ; dog. 406 a joke on street. On the other hand some underrated cars included 57 Pontiac 347 . 347 is a LOT more CI than the 57 chev 283 you hear about . Close to same car around it. Pontiac could kill a chev ,in 57, probably a 300C too till 100 or so . The nemesis of my 392 57 Dodge was a Pontiac 347.he could kill a D500 by two lengths.. 4 speed automatic. Why 392 went in. 394 olds no slouch either.. And Rambler rebel ! = Surprise !

Fastest car around Boston in those days was a 480”394 olds 3x2 ,B&M hydrostick 3x2 , 50 olds coupe , 4:11 . End two carbs ran alcohol ( hah!) . Could kill a 425 hp 409 .

There is a book out about this era around Boston , “Square Roll Bars” or something like that ...racing on Route 2 , Cambridge from Belmont / Arlington every night .. 10-15 cars . My mom could hear it from my house . She would yell at me = “Who ,me?” Led to me putting 300 hp 327 4 speed in an Austin Healey . That did the job at hand. Lost my license with it too . Crazy . Springfield area too

It was an option, so it may not qualify for your question but in 1958 you could order a “Marauder” 430 CI engine with 3x2 carbs in a Mercury that was rated at 400hp. Interestingly, the intake was manufactured by Moon, which is conceptually similar to what Edelbrock did for Chrysler for the
