Sounds like a lot of engines got blown up.
In that time frame, I had a friend with 426 wax wedge Plymouth, not warranted at all, blew it up twice .The problem was the oil pump drive shaft on B blocks would break at the hex at the bottom , when wound way up. Fixed by redesign of taper transition shape and heat treating , later.
This was in 62 -63-64. May be same thing, people winding up the 300, oil pump drive snaps off , thick oil, cold etc. Might be worth looking into that, knowing what shaft is in a car from that era ----if getting on it. Or just geta new one, if apart. About 50$ from Milodon.
Someone like Milodon makes them now, proven for racing ..Thinking about this---- I would go new on any rebuilt B block oil drive before 66 or so... Actually someone at Milodon might know all about this. Kind of hidden from "the victims" at the time.. My friend thought a foreign object must have jammed the pump. First time. = "tough luck, guy"

The 413 that was in the 300 J that Herb Rogers bought from me years ago also had a blank tag engine installed.

I purchased a 413 engine out of a gutted 1962 300H drop top many years ago and it had the same tag on it - would have been a warranty block. The engine ID pad had no stampings on it.

Regarding the picture of an engine tag in the E news, I think it's a warranty block tag.
I had a 60 Dodge Polara coupe at one point and it had a replacement engine that was changed when the car was still under warranty. The engine had a tag on it, held in place on the block just like this red tag with a small round nail/rivet...the block ID pad was blank on that warranty block, but this tag identified the engine. Mine was a 361 cu.in. (Canadian built Polaras had Matador engines) and the code stamped on the tag was 0134.
The engine block codes are listed in section 9-01-24 of the 1960 Chrysler parts book. The code 0133 stamped on the E-news block tag is not listed in the 1960 Chrysler book...so I don't know what engine it is for...later or earlier engine????
Thank you Bob for the great job you do on the E news! I like it!
