Hi Ray,
I will be driving down to St. Louis area on Monday morning with my '63 300
Convertible, but I won't be attending the meet full-time. I only plan to
visit on Monday night, so I hope to see you all in the parking lot with your
great 300's! I will be visiting clients on the way down Monday and will
return to the Chicago area on Tuesday. I have already bid on a used
steering box and hope to have it by next week. If the deal falls through, I
would be interested in the box only. I really don't need everything else.
My 300 has the claret interior with the square steering wheel. Everything
looks good, but I would like to tighten up the steering. I hope a rebuild
of the steering box will help. I look forward to seeing many of you after
reading all your informative emails.
300ly,
Mark Lindahl

HI MARK;
I have a complete 62-64 Steering Column from Steering Wheel to the Pitman
Arm.
I am coming to the Meet and can bring it with me if you can pick it up
there.
I don't see that you are coming to the meet, it is in your state, shame not
to at least drop by.
Let me know if you re interested. $75.00 delivered to the meet.

Hi All,
I have been reading the past emails regarding gearbox rebuilding and it
seems that the standard rebuild (not firm) is the best for most drivers. I
am going to buy a used gearbox, have it shipped out, and then replace the
one in my 300.
How does one determine that excessive play in the steering is the gearbox?
Is there a check list that I should go through first, just to make sure the
gearbox rebuilding is needed? I realize the gearbox is 50 years old and has
never been touched.
The centerlink and ball joints have been replaced. I have tried to clean up
the sloppy play by tightning the screw on the gearbox, but it did not seem
to have my effect. I think there was some caution statement in the service
manual to not tighten this screw too much. Any idea what is the right
amount? I also see a bit of fluid around the screw, so maybe there is a
slight leak? I assume this is not normal.
