I agree with everything written on the compression testing. The pressures seem a little low. We have diagnostic machines that direct you to needed repairs, your battery condition, ignition primary and secondary. Timing and spark plug burn time, cylinder contribution. Combustion efficiency through all ranges. These machines are like and external computer monitoring system that our old cars just didn't come with and the new cars have today. I have been using these machines for several years now and have found some interesting needed repairs. Cam and lifter replacement, worn distributor, wrong timing and vacuum advance totals. needed metering rod change in primary. After analysis repairs I picked up two miles per gallon and performance plus lower emissions. These machines, with the use of a chassis dynamometer can yield even greater accuracy. The results can be printed out take with you. Rick

Thanks for your research Rich,
That's a good write-up on compression testing. One might conclude from that reading that too much emphasis is often put on the results of compression testing and that proper (valid) compression testing is not often accomplished.
Much can be learned about the condition of an engine from studying the results of a valid test, but inaccurate diagnostics are more commonly the main outcome.
My recommendation is to avoid such a test unless you have strong evidence of a problem that can be easily identified by a test. If the engine runs well and performs properly, don't do the testing. You might see results that will cause you undue worries.
