[Chrysler300] 1958 300D engine oil Cap

I noticed inside my oil cap there is a material that was falling apart It looks like horse hair
not sure what it is. I did not want it to get into the engine so I cleaned it out.
I think the purpose of is to act like a filter. Does anybody have any good ideas as to what to replace it with & how?
