Dave and all,

 The numbers on the arm of the advance unit is the number of degrees that particular unit
 will move the breaker plate and advance the timing.

  OK, so I'm sitting here in A/C comfort, (its 91 outside w/darn near tha humidity) looking at 5 near identical vacume advance units. Identical but for the numbers stamped on the arms.

  3 are stamped 11
  1 is stamped 11.5
  and the last one is 12.5

  What do these numbers mean and how do they affect the way the engine runs?
