  Hi Group

  I have a 300 K Conv. with a floor automatic shift. I had my mechanic install the cable and the shift is all nutty. The gears do not line up as to the shifter pattern. Some how he has reverse down to neutral and drive is also not in its right place. He tried to adjust the cable and can not fix the shift pattern. When he got the car everything was fine. Any suggestions on what to tell him on how to fix the problem.

  [Replacement part may not be an exact new replacement or if was a used cable, may be modified by others or stretched. . Where did the replacement part come from? Did you source the part? My curiousity is why was it replaced if it worked OK before replacement?  Would suggest back to the beginning and compare old to new out of the vehicle to determine differences if any. Could be original has been modified to accomplish function due to a deficiency in some other part of the trans or shifter mechanism that now you have uncovered. Problem may not be in the cable itself of course. Hard to say what installation error if any may have ocurred.  Bad cable or install error it would seem, but maybe not.
