Re: {Chrysler 300} Temperature sender on 63

Hi Mac,

There is going to be some variance among different gauges, and if the gauge voltage regulator is consistent (it pulses).  Also the resistor you use, how hot it gets, etc.  Assuming the car's cooling system is working well, the normal engine coolant temperature going down the road is probably around 185, and the gauge should read somewhere between the first mark to halfway up the scale.  It should read in the upper operating range as the engine gets to around 210 degrees.  Above that you are running too hot, regardless of gauge reading.  Make sure to use an IR thermometer.

Subject {Chrysler 300} Temperature sender on 63

I replaced the temp. sender on my 63 383 non letter because it quit working. Saw it was reading high. Found and read Carl Bilter's excellent explanation and fix on the club site.  He states that 180 temp should be at or near the first operating temp mark on the gauge. My question is:what should the temp be in the upper operating range of the gauge? Last safe mark? Oh, and thank you Carl for a great explanation!
